Coup de Jarnac

The Coup

2010 Cascais Portugal

Written By: Steve Tringham - Apr• 08•11

In 2010 The Irish team hosted The Coup in Cascais, Portugal.

Staying at the hotel Vila Gale. we were just a short walk from the town square. Lots of great wine, beer, port and food in a different town square, mostly open air restaurants was a real winner. Probably the best venue for a coup (since Les Hiboux in Cognac?). Prompting a general clamour to return in 2011. Fantastic job by Sean and Gerry.

When was it: Sunday 12th September to Thursday 16th 2010

Golf Courses:

Monday: Quinta da Marinha

Tuesday: Belas

Wednesday: Penha Longa

Who was there?

Home Team: Ireland: Mike Byrne, Enda Burns, Gerry Canavan, Sean Gleeson, Mike Kelly, David Kent,

UK. Bill Cunningham, Mark Linzey, Malcolm Mitchell, Steve Tringham, Peter Wilkie

Who won? The Irish arrived with their clubs, someone cruelly asked afterward why – as they managed to lose without winning a single match.
