Coup de Jarnac

The Coup

2003 Evreux

After the joys of Les Hiboux, a new location in France was needed when Richard and Jean sold up and moved further north. T he plan was to return to Cognac and provisional bookings were made, but in the Spring Richard confirmed that they would have sold up and new owners would be there. Les Hiboux without them wouldn’t be the same!

So after some discussion and investigation of flight options, to reduce the risk of equipment loss, Evreux in Normandy was the picked. Hotel Normandie which had a reputation for great food was our base.

Travel was planned to avoid a change of planes in the hope of hanging on to a complete set of golf clubs. When the Irish team arrived with 5 sets of clubs, bags and 5 Irishman in a mid-size car we had to wonder if arriving without clubs might have been better.

Dean Johnson made the first of two appearances (so far) and my new GPS provided at least as much humour and piss taking as the Irish team travel arrangements.

And then there was the Coup – or Glue de Jarnac. It tortuous journey from Courtown is still a mystery to everyone but Mike Byrne.

And the GPS – this gag is still running as is the Glue………
